Aberdeen-based Julie Brander of Weber Shandwick Scotland has been selected as a rising star of the UK PR industry this week.
Julie, a senior manager, made PRWeek’s 30 under 30 list, which includes a range of agency and in-house PR professionals showcasing emerging industry talent.
With a keen interest in celebrity endorsement and the rise of social media stars, Julie exploited a market opportunity to establish Scotland’s first specialised influencer marketing practice, allowing brands to partner with ambassadors.
Today, Julie leads Weber Shandwick’s influencer practice in Scotland, providing a highly valuable and strategic communications solution to brands across science, transport, tourism, food and drink and property sectors. This practice has not only grown Weber Shandwick’s portfolio of clients and offered a new service but also opened recruitment opportunities, particularly for young talent.
Here’s what Julie had to say on being selected, “It’s incredibly exciting to be named in PR Week’s 30 Under 30 list this year. The recognition is extremely well-thought of across the industry and I’m very proud to have my name listed alongside so many passionate, hard-working and influential people from across the sector. Having joined Weber Shanwick as a graduate almost seven years ago, I’ve been lucky enough to have the support, encouragement and an amazing team of people to help get me to this exciting stage in my career, for which I am very grateful.”
Julie joined Weber Shandwick in Scotland in 2012 as a graduate. By the age of 25 she had achieved CIPR’s Young Communicator of the Year, Scotland award and began lecturing and mentoring students at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. She still uses this platform to encourage young talent to enter the industry and learn about influencer marketing.
Moray Macdonald, managing director of Weber Shandwick Scotland, said: “We are so proud of Julie. She has always delivered exceptional and impactful work for clients, so this recognition is well deserved. She has become one of the company’s leading employees, demonstrating ambition, creativity and dedication.”
